The Democratic Centre Quarterly (Demokratický střed), in cooperation with partners from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, has prepared a project for 2025, supported by the International Visegrad Fund (https://www.visegradfund.org/). This media project will focus on the impact of the war in Ukraine on the political, economic and social situation in each Visegrad country. The main findings will be summarised in a special issue of the Democratic Centre magazine in English. Experienced analysts and journalists from all Visegrad countries will contribute to the publication.
This special issue will contain 16 articles that will also appear in four issues of the Democratic Centre magazine and on the websites of the participating partners. They will also be offered for publication to other media in the V4 countries. Twelve articles will cover the impact of the war in Ukraine on politics, economy and society in each Visegrad country. Four articles will focus on possible developments in Visegrad cooperation in the shadow of the war in Ukraine.
The Polish partner of the project is The College of Eastern Europe (https://kew.org.pl/), which is the publisher of the Nowa Europa Wschodnia portal, which focuses, among other things, on Central and Eastern European issues. Slovak partner is Bratislava Policy Institute (https://www.bpi.sk/), which, among other things, works towards strengthening democratic institutions and processes in the CEE region. The institute has an experienced team headed by leading Slovak sociologist Michal Vašečka. Due to the limited capacity of our potential Hungarian partners, we will not cooperate with one institution from this country. However, individual Hungarian authors will be involved in the project, these will be authors associated with the CEU Democracy Institute.
On February 20th, the new issue of Democratic Centre was published, featuring three articles supported by our Visegrad project. These are articles by Dorota Niedziółka, Júlia Szabó and an interview with sociologist Jaromír Mazák. https://www.demokratickystred.cz/rocnik-xiv-1-cislo-unor-2025/
